Position Details

 

Electrical Engineer

Naperville, IL

This position involves failure analysis, industrial problem solving, engineering investigations, intellectual property issues and product evaluations for customers from a wide variety of industries.  The employee will be responsible for project management; as well as the performance of hands-on technical investigations and activities.  The engineer will be expected to lead and participate in multi-disciplinary teams.  There will be significant need for highly effective communication via both written reports and oral presentations to scientific colleagues as well as clients and potentially lay audiences without a technical background.  The position also includes responsibility for marketing activities, including direct contact with potential clients and the development of marketing materials and seminar presentations. 

Project work tends to be widely varied in nature and may involve the analysis of high, medium and low voltage systems, testing of power transmission or electrical distribution systems, switch gear systems; Uninterruptable Power Systems (UPS), motors, and DC power sources and controls. Testing both in the field and on the test bench of component failure analysis and non-destructive testing may be required. The candidate should be proficient in the development of testing protocols and test result documentation.

The candidate should have a working knowledge of the electrical industry software such as ETAP, SKM, Dapper and Captor. The candidate should have hands-on experience performing arc flash analysis, as well as coordination and load studies.  Products evaluated can range from locomotives to toasters with types of analyses ranging from fire origin and causation to historical standards research.  Projects may involve providing litigation support for product liability and personal injury lawsuits.  Moderate travel will likely be required, including field inspections and client visits.  Project work may require the ability to walk or climb in challenging environments, carry equipment, and climb ladders, bend, twist and reach. Demonstrated experience in the preparation of expert reports, deposition preparation, and trial testimony is helpful.

The successful candidate must possess outstanding communication skills and a strong background in R&D, manufacturing or product development.  Experience preferred in product testing, electrical design, failure analysis, investigations and component selection.  Demonstrated familiarity in consulting and with NEC, NFPA, IEEE Standards, COMAR, OSHA, DOT, and EPA regulations related to hazard communication a plus.
