Human / Machine Interaction

Packer Engineer's scientists realize that there are three critical dimensions involved in the safe and efficient design and use of products and machinery: the particular piece of equipment or system involved, the environment in which the activity occurs, and the operators, themselves.  All of these dimensions interact together to produce the total product employment or accident environment. While many of Packer Engineering’s experts concentrate on the machine-related facets of the problem, others focus their attention on either the human or environmental aspects, or on the interaction between all three dimensions.

Human performance evaluations and assessments involve such diverse areas as:

  • Vision and visibility
  • Reaction and response time under various conditions
  • Operator performance characteristics for machinery and systems
  • Slip, trip, and falls
  • Equipment accessibility
  • Reach envelopes
  • Anthropometric considerations
  • Application of cognitive capabilities and performance

Aerospace

Packer Engineering Aerospace provides analysis of human performance within an aircraft. Often these issues arise when evaluating safety, human factors, design analysis, ergonomics, and occupant/pilot safety and performance in accidents. Our Aerospace team often works in conjunction with our Human Factors department to investigate the role of human performance in aviation.

Electrical Engineering

Packer Engineering evaluates the human factors and safety concerns that arise any time an individual comes into contact with an electrical product. Whether working with the user or manufacturer, our engineers can evaluate a product to make it safer and more functional for everyone involved. Past projects have involved:

  • Consumer appliances
  • Electric and magnetic field studies
  • Safety assessment

Electronics Engineering

Packer Engineering evaluates the human factors and safety concerns that arise any time an individual comes into contact with an electrical product. Computer interfaces for everything from manual processes, production automation, and robotics to medical implants often demand reliability testing and design improvements. Whether working with the user or manufacturer, our engineers can evaluate a product to make it safer and more functional for everyone involved. Our services include:

  • Consumer electronics evaluation
  • Controls/sensors analysis
  • Safety assessment
