Engineers with Answers

Aaron J. Jones, P.E.

Sr. Director

Mr. Jones has a broad background including failure analysis, mechanical testing, process metallurgy, scanning electron and light microscopy, finite element analysis, vehicle mechanics, and accident investigation and reconstruction.

His undergraduate and graduate studies concentrated on the traditional metallurgical and materials engineering with an emphasis in ferrous physical metallurgy. As a supplement to his thesis work, Mr. Jones completed many of the requirements for the B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, including mechanical vibrations, machine design, finite element methods and elasticity.

Before joining Packer Engineering, Mr. Jones worked independently performing specialized mechanical testing. He also held positions with National Recovery Systems where he helped develop and implement a binder system for waste oxide powders generated in the steelmaking process. While a graduate student at IIT, Mr. Jones also taught or assisted in a number of undergraduate courses. Mr. Jones has been involved in automotive and diesel service for 12 years, where he focused on diagnosis and repair. Mr. Jones has also worked at Joliet Machine and Engineering where he became an accomplished machinist and machine code programmer.

Mr. Jones' research studies included an investigation of the metallurgy behind mechanically joined aluminum automotive space frames. Mr. Jones has also designed and constructed an instrument that is capable of detecting and characterizing solute species in iron steels through the use of microscopic torsional vibrations. This instrument is the only of its kind in North America and is a primary analytical tool of the Midwest Steel Center at the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Mr. Jones is a licensed professional engineer in the State of Illinois.
