Albert V. Karvelis, Ph.D., P.E.

Dr. Karvelis has been involved for over 40 years with machinery and manufacturing systems, product design and development, product improvement, manufacturing, performance, testing and safety. His areas of focus include machine design, fluid mechanics, acoustics, control systems, human factors, guarding and warnings. Additionally, he has directed the Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, and Human Factors and Ergonomics practices at Packer Engineering.

Prior to joining Packer Engineering in 1989, Dr. Karvelis was Manager of the Engineering Mechanics Department at the Borg-Warner Research Center (Des Plaines, Illinois). His responsibilities included product design and development, intellectual property, manufacturing consulting and failure analysis for the Chemical, Automotive, Industrial Products (Byron, Jackson Pumps), and Security and Air Conditioning (York) divisions. He also directed the activities of the Fluid/Thermal, Design, Noise and Vibration, and CVT Technology sections at Borg-Warner.

Before that, while at the Babcock & Wilcox Technical Center-Mechanical Engineering Laboratory (Alliance Ohio), Dr. Karvelis directed the design, construction and installation of reactor monitoring systems, component failure analysis and consulting to the Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation business units, to the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Department of Energy.

Dr. Karvelis has published eight technical articles. His most recent is Ergonomics, Chapter 58, Manufacturing Engineering Handbook. He has served as Chair, Vice-Chair and as a member of various technical committees in the ASME Design Engineering Division. As Adjunct Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Northern Illinois University, he has taught Advanced Vibration, Fatigue, and Fracture Mechanics graduate level courses. He also lectures on Safety and Ethics in Design.

Dr. Karvelis is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the states of Illinois, Connecticut, Florida, Michigan, Texas and Wisconsin.
