Michael B. Cahill, S.E., P.E.

Senior Staff Engineer

Michael Cahill is a Civil Engineer specializing in structural design and analysis.  He is a Licensed Structural Engineer and Home Inspector in the State of Illinois and a Licensed Professional Engineer in the States of Illinois and Indiana.  Mr. Cahill has 26 years of professional engineering experience encompassing structural analysis, timber and steel design, field investigations and building code review.  Mr. Cahill joined Packer Engineering’s Construction Technology Group in 2008.  While at Packer Engineering, Mr. Cahill has led a wide variety of projects ranging from structural damage investigations to building code analysis.

 

Prior to joining Packer Engineering, Mr. Cahill spent 21 years in the engineering department at W. Kost Manufacturing, a major supplier of wood and steel pre-manufactured building components in the Chicago area.  At W. Kost, he was the manager of the engineering department.  He oversaw all the structural design and analysis needs of the company, including the design and delivery of roof/wall trusses and wall panels.  Mr. Cahill was also responsible for performing building and roof field inspections, interpreting BOCA and IBC building codes and reviewing building structures to determine how their structural components affected other aspects of the buildings.  In addition, he worked extensively with clients, engineers, architects, contractors and building officials to resolve component or building related issues.  Sample projects have included single and multi-family residences, hotels, schools, and assisted living facilities. 

Prior to W. Kost Manufacturing, Mr. Cahill was employed with Sargent & Lundy.  He was involved in structural steel design on the Braidwood Nuclear Power Plant near Joliet, Illinois.
