As a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager and Industrial Hygienist, Michael Kaniuga has nearly 9 years of broad-based consulting experience related to the environmental, occupational health, and safety fields (EHS). Mr. Kaniuga has conducted investigations for a variety of clients including industrial property owners, developers, contractors, insurance adjusters, and legal counsel. Prior to joining Packer Engineering, he worked for Bureau Veritas, an international EHS consulting firm.
Mr. Kaniuga’s diversified education and background as an industrial hygienist, indoor environmental quality professional and environmental consultant coupled with his understanding of mechanical and building systems allows him to work in concert with Packer Engineering’s structural, fire and explosion groups as well as numerous other disciplines within the firm.
His experience includes comprehensive consulting services related to physical and chemical contaminants in air, soil, and groundwater, and their interaction within a structure or within the ambient surrounding environment. His experience includes investigations ranging from single-family residential homes to 60 -acre industrial facilities, from due diligence and auditing to accident investigations.
Mr. Kaniuga has led a variety of projects involving moisture incursion, biological agents (e.g. mold, Legionella, bacterial contamination), asbestos, lead, ventilation issues, personal exposure, and general hazard risk assessments. He has collected analyzed, interpreted, organized, and evaluated the scientific data necessary to provide opinions related to identifying problem causation or defining remediation protocols.
Mr. Kaniuga has an essential understanding of numerous federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines related to EHS. He has designed and implemented compliance programs related to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, Confined Space Entry, and Hearing Conservation. In addition, his field experience includes assessments, surveying, and remedial supervision for indoor environmental quality (IEQ) contaminates, biological agents, Asbestos, and Lead in a wide range of environments including schools, hospitals and government buildings.
