Suzanne Smyth, Ph.D., CFEI
Staff ConsultantDr. Smyth is an engineer within the Fire Science and Explosion Group at Packer Engineering. Her areas of specialization include combustion emissions and temperature measurement, catalytic combustion, and combustion modeling. Dr. Smyth’s mechanical engineering background includes an emphasis on heat transfer and fluid dynamics with experience in these fields both experimentally and relative to numerical simulation.
Prior to joining Packer Engineering, Dr. Smyth earned her doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Smyth’s research in the Combustion Physics Laboratory involved the study of small-scale catalytically reacting flows; and, her expertise includes experimental design, gaseous emission sampling and analysis, laser diagnostics, and numerical modeling. Dr. Smyth has instructed undergraduate courses in the areas of heat transfer and fluid dynamics. Additionally, she has experience in the production and testing of Biodiesel.
