Senior Vice President, Building Technology / Safey Issues / Structural StaffPrior to joining Packer Engineering, Dr. Carlson has more than 12 years of senior research and development management experience with two Fortune 200 industry leaders, Owens Corning Fiberglas and the USG Corporation. His areas of specific expertise include building systems, product development and building physics technology. Successful product commercializations have included stressed skin construction panels, fire stop and barrier systems, residential and commercial thermal insulation products, gypsum based wallboard systems, and exterior cladding systems. Dr. Carlson has applied research and experimental experience in large scale fire testing, structural testing, building thermal envelope analysis and building acoustics. His experience also includes safety program development and implementation both in the field and the workplace environment.
Since joining Packer Engineering in 1990, Dr. Carlson has conducted cause and origin investigations, including the 1999 Texas A&M bonfire collapse, a cooling water line collapse during power plant construction, damage to more than100 homes and hotel properties as a result of Hurricane Andrew and Iniki, a high-rise building curtain wall system failure and Exterior Insulation Finish Systems (EIFS) investigations. Dr. Carlson has conducted safety program reviews for a national government laboratory. Dr. Carlson's earlier experience in firearms manufacturing, coupled with over 30 years of safe firearm use, provides Packer Engineering with additional expertise in this area.
